Splash-Shaped Installation Captures the Fluidity of Light

As part of Milan Design Week 2024, Czech glass brand Lasvit presents Soaked In Light, a poetic exploration of form, texture, and transparency at the Euroluce lighting fair (Hall 6, Stand C39 D38). At the heart of the exhibition is “Splash”, a dramatic, suspended installation by designer Martin Gallo. Composed of fused glass fragments, the piece mimics water in motion, hanging from the ceiling like a frozen wave.

With overhead spotlights casting intricate ripple-like shadows across the surrounding surfaces, Splash evokes the ephemeral beauty of a moment suspended in time. It blurs the line between sculpture and light installation, drawing visitors into a meditative atmosphere of reflection and flow.

Nature-Inspired Pendant by Patrick Jouin: Vera

Also debuting at the show is “Vera”, a new pendant light by French designer Patrick Jouin. The design features a vertical glass cylinder impressed with the texture of a tree branch, capturing the organic feel of bark in fine glass.

The inspiration came during Jouin’s visit to Lasvit’s glassworks in Nový Bor, Czech Republic. Rather than using a mould, artisans poured molten glass directly over a real tree branch, transferring the wood’s texture into the material. The bark-like fused glass was then encased in a smooth outer shell of handmade borosilicate glass, creating a balance between raw and refined aesthetics.
