In this Dezeen-produced film, the Dutch furniture business Moooi and its father, Luís Rebelo de Andrade, explain how they completely decorated Lisbon’s Art Legacy Hotel with Moooi products.

The hotel is well-known for its usage of only Moooi goods and its rooms’ striking primary color schemes.

The studio’s founder, Luís Rebelo De Andrade, stated in an exclusive video interview with Dezeen that “hospitality is always about image and stories.” “We wanted the guests, when they come to this hotel, to have a completely unexpected experience.”

“So, we proposed to our client that we make a hotel with only Moooi products, to give it a very strong identity.”

The hotel was outfitted with carpets, furniture, lighting, wall coverings, and artwork by Moooi.

Tiago Rebelo De Andrade, the son of Luís Rebelo De Andrade and partner and senior architect of the studio, claimed that “Moooi” was present throughout the structure. “Every floor of the hotel tells a different tale thanks to the many hues, textures, and pieces of furniture from Moooi.

Renovating a historic office building is the project’s aim. Rebelo De Andrade restored the hotel’s exterior in addition to its inside.

Tiago Rebelo De Andrade claims that Moooi’s interior design approach for the hotel was well-suited to the studio’s use of modernism and classical allusions.

“Moooi is classic but in a way that can also be modern,” he stated. “It’s a modern-classic building.”

Luís Rebelo De Andrade visited Moooi’s Museum of Extinct Animals exhibition at Milan design week in 2018 and made the decision to collaborate with the brand on the hotel’s interiors.

The Art Legacy Hotel features coordinating wall coverings, furniture, and bathroom tiles in each of its rooms. Moreover, They are are decorated in shades of blue, red, yellow, or green.

“When I first met Moooi’s products, I felt that it uses a lot of primary colours,” he stated.

Thus, I made heavy use of primary colors in the motel. These hues arouse your emotions.”

The pair also talked about their working relationship in the video interview.

“He provokes me, my son,” Luís Rebelo De Andrade remarked. “We had to educate ourselves on how to work together.”

“I offer my experience, he offers his youth in projects,” he said. “So I think it’s a good mix.”

“It’s challenging because the relationship is between a father and son,” Tiago Rebelo De Andrade continued. “We are always arguing, but at the end of the day, we drink a bottle of wine so that we can make peace with each other.”
