Pingtan Children’s Library won the 2022 International Interior Design Award,
Pingtan Children’s Library by Condition_Lab, won the 2022 International Interior Design Award at INSIDE Festival,
Sister festival of the International Festival of Architecture.
INSIDE recognizes the best interior design projects and has its own awards and conference programme.
WAF and INSIDE took place at the same venue as an in-person event at the FIL Exhibition Center in Lisbon,
Portugal, from November 30 to December 2, 2022.
The project, located in China, was shortlisted from 11 categories to win the final prize.
Design features
The library is a small wooden structure based on the classification of traditional
“dong houses” and is mainly composed of two interlocking spiral staircases.
The value of the project is concentrated in the animation and preservation
of the traditional culture of young users and the discipline of design, highlighting the social importance of architecture.
The judges were impressed by the “traditional craftsmanship” of the children’s design,
“real users of this delightful structure,
They can play on the stairs, reach for a book or reach the top of a friend.”
This year’s INSIDE World Interior Award was judged by the 2022 INSIDE Festival Master Jury –
Written by Linzi Cassels and Perkins + Will; Anne Lau, Hebal; Eva Jiřičná, AI – DESIGN;
Johnny Chew, JC Architecture, and Nigel Coates.
Additionally, The Moving Kitchen from JC. The architecture was praised.
