Unearthing a community church in Tainan,

De-Guang Presbyterian Church is located in Tainan, a city in southern Taiwan,

and most of the buildings around the site consist of three to six storey raw homes in the high-density residential neighborhood.

The chapel plays a role as a community center.

Architect Liao transformed the metaphorical concept of “tent” into a concise architectural image.

He responded to the neighborhood in an understated setting,

and finally achieved a sense of harmony with the surroundings.

Speaking of the construction, the fair façade concrete was mainly applied to the building,

And the grille interface is made of plated angle steel,

which is easy to maintain in the local area, which effectively achieves the canopy effect.

The double façade helps air circulate in the building.

At the same time, it also meets the needs of hot domestic environment.

Before entering the church, we see the focal point that symbolizes the community church,

and the squares and benches can attract community activities here, as people and religious people are connected here.

The church is surrounded from the inside by many corridors that penetrate and connect with each other.

Just like a miniature city alley, coupled with a lofty atrium,

allowing the wind to flow freely and improving the comfort of the building.

This intermediate space, semi-outdoor spaces,

and semi-public spaces permeate every layer of the interior space,

In an effort to make people “go in and appear to go out,”

They enter the outside as they enter the inside”,

and the interior and exterior spaces blend with each other,

What makes people think of themselves.

As people move through alley-like passages,

these intermediate spaces heighten body awareness.

Slowing down the sense of time, trying to calm people’s hearts and prepare to enter the temple at the highest point.

At night, a light shines from within,

and the church is a beacon on the neighborhood.
