Designer Rob Diaz has crafted a custom-built residence in Studio City, Los Angeles, that draws heavy inspiration from Mallorcan villas. This four-bedroom, five-bathroom home reflects a commitment to natural materials and earthy interiors, blending the outdoors seamlessly with the indoors.

Natural Materials and Earthy Interiors

The house features Clayworks plaster walls and ceilings, evoking a connection to Mallorca and the Gold Coast of Australia. These textured surfaces set the stage for striking design elements, including statement furniture and sculptural lighting. Diaz emphasized avoiding recessed lights, opting instead for curated fixtures that harmonize across the spaces.

The kitchen boasts oak cabinetry paired with blue-green stone counters and backsplash, maintaining the home’s natural aesthetic. Meanwhile, the living room centers around a limestone fireplace, with standout pieces like an emerald glass chandelier and tan leather chairs accentuating the decor.

Bringing the Outdoors In

Large windows flood the hacienda-style dwelling with natural light, enhancing the earth-toned finishes. In the den, deep blue plaster walls contrast with warm wooden elements, creating a cozy yet refined atmosphere. Similarly, the bathrooms showcase large expanses of stone, while the guest bedroom features timber boards enveloping the space.

Sculptural Design Elements

The plaster staircase incorporates a solid banister with soft curves, reflecting the designer’s penchant for sculptural forms. In the bedrooms, sculptural light fixtures and dark green fabrics complement the neutral tones, continuing the earthy theme throughout.

Exterior and Unique Touches

The home’s 3,500-square-foot exterior is clad entirely in limestone-travertine bricks, arranged to create depth through relief effects. These bricks extend into the entryway, unifying the exterior and interior design.
