Proposal for a bulbous visitor center on the Dnipro Bridge in Ukraine,

Ukrainian architecture firm Makhno Studio has proposed a visitor center featuring an ‘onion-shaped’ volume towards the bank of the Dnipro River in Ukraine.

Called Vitryak, the 300 square meter project is proposed to increase energy efficiency and use energy from renewable and alternative sources, including wind.

Project features

The studio proposed a new Vitryak project on the bank of the Dnipro River,

in the middle of a field with windmills.

It is the prospect of implementing renewable energy technologies that regional communities are concentrated in rural areas.

Wind energy is one of the alternative energy sources that enhance the resilience of the public system and resistance to threats.

This problem has become more acute than ever,

which is why the studio decided to introduce Project Vitryak.

The two-story visitor center program consists of a museum, café area,

and conference hall in the context of a field with electric windmills,

an entertainment area, and a café bar area.

Designed as a modern visitor center, the building represents the ideas of a pure and sustainable new world.

The studio emphasized that “sustainable development is the key to the future,

because it makes people independent of external factors,

gives them freedom and brings them closer to nature.

The office added, “The windmill has already become part of the modern landscape,

and the project complements this complex with its modern architectural forms.”

The project is a story about rethinking our potential independence,

because the energy received from the wind in nature leads to complete freedom and flexibility.

Also, energy consumption – effective, economical, innovative, alternative,

and it is a new philosophy that must be used by society,

which seeks liberation and withdrawal from energy bondage.

Design the project as a concrete bird

Vitryak resembles a concrete bird in the middle of a field with metal giants –

a symbol of movement and free flight,

and the studio preferred to use white to blend the building into the landscape.

Where the main line runs through the field with windmills and ends at a new visitor center.

The idea for the visitor center was derived from the discovery of clean contemporary forms,

which define the philosophy of the new movement of modern energy companies.

And also the use of wind power generated for clean, waste-free wind.

As the studio explained, the originality of the simple forms raises debate,

and the peculiarity of the landscape is a circular lake behind the main building,

above which there is an observation deck with a view of the windmills.

The main block was proposed as a museum, designed in the form of a pavilion,

which in its reflection lakes reminds of the construction of a windmill.

As well as to emphasize the horizontal shape of the main block,

which depends on the architectural form in the form of a wing,

the visual composition continued with the new tetrapods,

It is a unique 3D Tile by Makhno Studio.

Use light colors and soft lines

While the first floor includes the conference hall,

the café bar area and the interior of the center,

It is executed in light colors and smooth lines to emphasize the connection with the natural forms of the landscape,

The walls are decorated with the signature 3D studio tiles – tetrapods.

Large-scale prototypes of tetrapods hang from the ceiling in the café area,

and the table area is marked on one side by Khmara luminaries and on the other by lianas.

The building is also proposed to have a completely independent public energy system,

and is intended to operate entirely on wind energy from the surrounding field.

Visitors can sip a coffee, relax in the entertainment area and recharge their coffee-making facilities, thanks to renewable energy sources.

The visitor center space is inspired by a rethinking of the studio’s role in developing energy independence in the country,

because windmills are one of the most valuable resources for producing green hydrogen and maintaining the global ecosystem.

Vitryak is a project about the future, about knowledge about the conservation of natural resources, for the purpose of increasing the resilience of the energy system.

The office believes that Vitryak is an important project,

as it stresses the importance of using alternative energy sources,

especially during the energy crisis that we faced.

While wind will play a leading role in the transformation of the global energy sector,

that is why this project aims to draw attention to wind as an alternative source of energy.
