Raffles Hotels & Resorts, a prestigious Singaporean chain established by the Sarkies brothers in 1887, has evolved into a global brand with over 20 properties spanning Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Among its recent additions is Raffles Boston, marking the brand’s debut in the United States. This 35-story marvel, designed by The Architectural Team, features residences by Rockwell Group and a 147-key hotel by Stonehill Taylor.

Drawing Inspiration from Nature

Named after the renowned botanist Sir Stamford Raffles, the hotel concept pays homage to Boston’s Emerald Necklace, a vast chain of parks spanning 1,100 acres. This inspiration is reflected in the incorporation of flora and fauna throughout the guest rooms and public spaces, including two lobbies, conference areas, lounges, and four F&B outlets. Bethany Gale, the interiors design director, explains, “We brought biophilic designs to life throughout.”

Biophilic Design Elements

In the ground-floor lobby, guests are greeted by a stunning custom blown-glass installation that mimics leaves falling from trees, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere. Moving to the sky lobby on the 17th floor, visitors encounter actual plant life cascading from a 30-foot-high shelving system adorned in warm copper. This use of natural materials not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also fosters a connection to nature within the urban environment.

Regional Narrative and Cultural Heritage

Stonehill Taylor weaves elements of Boston’s rich history into the hotel’s design narrative. The choice of warm copper pays homage to the Revere Copper Company, founded by Paul Revere in a Boston suburb in 1801. This material, seen in the elevator lobby, adds a touch of historical significance, seamlessly blending past and present.

Conclusion: A Harmonious Fusion of Luxury and Tradition

Raffles Boston epitomizes the perfect harmony between luxury hospitality and cultural heritage. By incorporating elements of nature and paying homage to Boston’s rich history, the hotel creates a unique and immersive experience for guests. From the lush greenery to the warm copper accents, every detail tells a story, inviting visitors to embark on a journey of discovery and indulgence in the heart of the city.
