RCR Arquitectes, the studio awarded the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize, has announced its design for the Muraba Veil skyscraper, which will stand 380 meters tall in downtown Dubai. Notably, the structure will feature a single apartment width.

Distinctive Structure and Location

Positioned alongside Dubai’s primary highway and the Dubai Canal, the skyscraper boasts a distinctive wide main facade while maintaining a narrow width of only 22.5 meters. This unique shape, described as “exceptionally slender,” is intended to attract attention.

The design team described the Muraba Veil as “awe-inspiring yet understated,” emphasizing its ability to rise elegantly above the dunes in one of the UAE’s most vibrant and forward-looking cities, creating a striking visual even amidst Dubai’s architectural landscape.

Apartment Layout and Amenities

The 73-storey tower will comprise 131 apartments, each spanning the full width of the building, allowing residents to enjoy views in both directions. In addition to residential spaces, the skyscraper will feature a spa, a restaurant, an art gallery, a padel court, meeting rooms, a private cinema, and a communal area designed to resemble dunes.

Innovative Facade Design

The building will be enveloped in a stainless steel mesh, referred to as a veil, which is central to its identity. The design is inspired by local architectural traditions, with each apartment arranged around a modern interpretation of an Arab courtyard.

Integration with Nature

Rafael Aranda, founder of RCR Arquitectes, stated, “We are committed to creating buildings that are in harmony with their environment, reflecting the local landscape and culture.” This connection to nature is a crucial aspect of their design philosophy.

Contribution to Dubai’s Iconic Skyline

The Muraba Veil will enhance Dubai’s impressive skyline, joining a growing collection of remarkable skyscrapers. Earlier this year, a tower by Nikken Sekkei featuring a 230-meter-long skybridge was named a favorite among Dezeen readers. Other recent additions include residential towers by Foster + Partners overlooking Dubai Bay and Mercedes-Benz’s debut residential skyscraper in the city.
