At the We, Robot event in Los Angeles, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed two groundbreaking autonomous vehicles: the highly anticipated Robotaxi, dubbed “Cybercab”, and a surprise prototype, the Robovan.
Robovan: A Retro-Futuristic Autonomous Vehicle
The Robovan, a fully autonomous van designed to transport up to 20 people, stole the show with its sleek, retro-futuristic aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from the streamlined trains of the 1920s and 30s, it features a unique angular design with no visible front or rear windows. A slim headlight band wraps around the vehicle’s exterior, contributing to its distinctive look.
Musk emphasized the Robovan’s futuristic appeal, stating, “The future should look like the future.” He added that the vehicle would not only serve high-density transportation but also carry goods, making it versatile for various uses.
Robotaxi: Affordable and Autonomous
Alongside the Robovan, Musk presented the Robotaxi, a minimalist, two-door, fully autonomous taxi with no steering wheels or pedals. Designed with a Cybertruck-like aesthetic, the Robotaxi is expected to be an affordable solution for autonomous transport, with a price tag below $30,000. Tesla aims to have the Robotaxi in production by 2026 or 2027, with high-volume manufacturing planned.
Both vehicles highlight Tesla’s vision for reshaping urban transportation with sleek, autonomous solutions that aim to revolutionize road travel.
