About a year and a half ago, His Royal Highness Prince “Mohammed bin Salman”,

the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, announced plans for a linear city similar to utopia.

The city is running on 100% clean energy,

and he said the country will invest between $100 billion and $200 billion.

The new city, called The Line, has been described in a way that resembles a post-apocalyptic place and banner.

This is to make the project a reality, with residents living without cars or streets within a futuristic 100-mile ‘belt’.

By anchoring the Kingdom’s Green City, NEOM, and residents will use high-speed autonomous transportation and artificial intelligence,

which will improve daily life by harnessing data to enhance infrastructure.

When the project was first announced, visuals of the project were noticeably missing, and instead,

the public was tasked with imagining what this one-of-a-kind city could look like,

using boisterous descriptions full of innovative slang for technology to inform their thoughts.

But as the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words –

and for those eager to get a better understanding of The Line, these pictures are finally here.

The Line’s designs

His Royal Highness participated in the designs for The Line, in late July,

which provided a better understanding of the vision.

The Line will be 656 feet wide and 1,640 feet high and be clad in a reflective façade that reflects the surrounding desert.

Most of the city’s functions will also be tiered, meaning that schools, homes, offices and parks,

among other infrastructure, will be stacked on top of each other, promoting vertical movement as well as horizontal travel.

His Royal Highness bin Salman said in a statement: “When launching The Line last year,

we committed to a civilizational revolution that puts people first on the basis of a radical change in urban planning.”

The designs unveiled today for the vertically stratified city communities will challenge traditional flat, horizontal cities.

It will create a model for the preservation of nature and the enhancement of human sustenance.

NEOM remains one of the most important projects of Saudi Vision 2030,

and the commitment to deliver the line on behalf of the nation remains unwavering.
