Sisu – light sculptures are ambient wall pieces that Studio Rik ten Velden creates by artfully fusing cast resin frames with various front materials.

Studio Rik ten Velden expertly creates “Sisu” — fascinating light sculptures that are ambient wall pieces harmoniously blending cast resin frames with multiple front materials. The artists aim to express the beauty of materials through clear-cut forms with a focus on the relationship between the applied materials.

The work of Firm Rik ten Velden, a world-class furniture and lighting design studio based in the Netherlands, is ingeniously founded on material exploration and innovation as well as minutely precise manufacturing processes.

“The creation of Sisu light sculptures was during a time when the majority of us were facing challenges of some kind.

Sisu, which means strength of will, tenacity, and perseverance in Finnish, struck a chord with me when I first learned it, according to founder Rik.

This magnificent set includes 3 unique models in various minimalistic eye-catching designs made from materials that are delightfully calming to the eyes, a resin frame base, and various front tints.

It was creatively created in high quality with an emphasis on round, flowing, and seamless shapes. It also considers the integration of warm LED lighting.

A fantastic work that combines flow and grace

“The outcome is a flowing shape with a variety of fronts. With longevity in mind and with the goal of reducing energy use and waste, the cast resin lightweight frame is from a mold that we can be eternally reuse!

To create organically shaped frames, they create a unique mold. Then inject liquid resin into it and quickly removed it as a solid frame.

Indirect light smoothly casts a silhouette around the frame and illuminates the front surface of the resin frame. Also, houses LED lights on the rear and front sides of the cover.

For the front cover, a variety of materials are available. Including cane webbing, colored satin acrylic, and a colored acrylic mirror.

Furthermore, one can make an eye-catching installation or even an eclectic, amusing composition by combining many Sisu sculptures. Each person will find something they like thanks to the endless color possibilities and matching fronts!

We walk inside the immovable confines of our daily routines and forget that life is a fluid force. Sisu serves as a reminder that life may be vibrant and fun with its misplaced shapes.

Moreover, we hope to work with producers/designers to develop intriguing translucent surface materials that will fit the resin frames. Rik says.
