Competition Brief

SIT Situér Milano 2026 is an open international design competition organised by Terraviva Competitions in partnership with Situér Milano, a Milan-based furniture brand specialising in sheet metal, brass, and stainless steel products. The competition invites architects, designers, and creatives worldwide to design a coordinated mini furniture collection consisting of three interconnected pieces that reflect and extend Situér Milano’s existing design identity.

This is a product design competition with a direct commercial outcome: the winning collection will be prototyped, produced, and commercially distributed by Situér Milano. The first prize winner receives royalties on every unit sold. The brief sits at the intersection of interior architecture and industrial design, with a strong emphasis on material discipline, structural logic, and collection coherence.

Intent

The challenge is to conceive three interconnected elements: one primary piece and two complementary objects, together forming a coherent and recognisable design language. The primary element may be a shelving system, console, or seating piece acting as the structural core of the collection. Secondary elements such as a coat rack, umbrella holder, mirror, lamp, or tray should reinforce the same formal and material principles. The collection must be designed for domestic interiors, retail environments, or both, balancing versatility with a clear concept.

Purpose

Unlike most Terraviva competitions, this brief has a real production endpoint. Situér Milano’s core expertise in sheet metal, brass, and stainless steel defines the material frame within which proposals must operate. Structural precision and refined detailing are expected, with particular attention to feasibility, construction logic, and ease of assembly, as the winning collection will move directly from design to prototype to commercial production. The first prize winner will receive a 4% royalty on each product sold by Situér Milano. All registered participants also receive a 15% discount on Situér Milano products using the coupon code SITUERXTVC.

Requirements

Participation is open to individuals and teams of any size and nationality. Each submission must include one A3 horizontal book (420 x 297 mm, maximum 20 pages) and two representative horizontal images at 2560 x 1810 pixels. All work must be original. Proposals must demonstrate production plausibility within Situér Milano’s sheet metal, brass, and stainless steel manufacturing context. Teams under a single competition registration have no member limit; teams under a monthly membership plan are limited to five members total.

Jury

  1. Camillo Castellani – President of the jury panel, Board of Castellani.it S.r.l. and Situér Milano, Milan, Italy. Graduate of Politecnico di Milano in Architectural Sciences and Architectural Design; studied emergency architecture and adaptive reuse; completed an international exchange at the Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Brazil.

Proposals will be evaluated by the board of Castellani.it S.r.l., with Camillo Castellani serving as President of the jury panel. The full jury composition beyond the named president has not been published.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

Situér Milano is the most commercially substantive of the current Terraviva competitions. The production and royalty commitment for the first prize winner transforms this from a recognition exercise into a genuine design-to-market pathway: a winning proposal will be manufactured, sold, and generate ongoing income for its designer at 4% per unit. That is a meaningful proposition that changes the risk-reward calculus relative to competitions that offer only cash and publication. The material constraint, sheet metal, brass, and stainless steel, is specific enough to give the brief real discipline without being restrictive, and it ensures that proposals stay within a feasible manufacturing envelope. The jury panel is led by Camillo Castellani of Situér Milano itself, which means evaluation is conducted by the actual client rather than an independent panel, limiting external critical perspective. The submission format requiring an A3 book of up to 20 pages demands more production effort than the single-panel format of other Terraviva competitions, which is appropriate given the commercial stakes. For designers working in interior architecture and furniture design with a genuine interest in metal craft and spatial objects, this is the most incentive-rich brief currently on the Terraviva platform.

Final Thoughts

Situér Milano 2026 stands apart from most open design competitions by offering the first prize winner a real production outcome and ongoing royalty income rather than a one-time cash award. The early registration fee of €49 is the most affordable entry point on the Terraviva platform currently.
