Summer School ILS Innovative Learning Spaces “Inside-out Schools”

What does architecture have to do with schools? Can space contribute to improving and innovating learning processes? Can learning space expand into urban spaces? These are the questions to which the VI edition of the Scientific School ILS Innovative Learning Spaces “Inside-out schools” will pursue an answer, offering the opportunity for students, architects, landscape architects, and teachers to participate in an interdisciplinary and international debate on the educational spaces and the educational organization.

The workshop will take place in the beautiful city of Cagliari, Sardinia (Italy) from September 03 to 10, 2023, at the Architecture school, to understand how to bridge the distance between school and the natural world, daily life, information, new technologies, social, virtual environments, BIM design, and energy sustainability. The aim is to reflect on the urban connotation of learning spaces and its declinations and on the appropriation and use of public space to empower participants in relating pedagogical experiences and places where they are practiced, in overcoming the parcelization and standardization of spaces for education and in providing them for the whole community, not just for the youngest.

Furthermore, The Summer School is open to students, undergraduates, graduates, professionals, and teachers and aims at fostering heterogeneity and exchange. It is also open to different fields and backgrounds: architecture, urbanism, design, pedagogy, computer science, engineering, materials science, and energy resource control. Activities will have a duration of 8 days and will be structured as an intensive and in-person workshop. Moreover, A maximum of 35 students are being admitted and will be divided into working groups coordinated by international lecturers. Previous editions have included: Giancarlo Mazzanti, Lacaton & Vassal, Jo Noero, João Nunes, Enric Batlle, Sebàstiàn Irarrázaval, and many others.

A detailed program will be available soon on the dedicated website.
