Interiors studio Tabitha Isobel has designed a gallery-like store for luxury luggage brand Carl Friedrik in a Grade-II listed building on Regent Street, London. This 65-square-metre space combines the brand’s minimalistic style with a rich palette of dark wood, metal, and draped fabrics, creating a warm and inviting environment.

Design Concept

Studio founder Tabitha Organ developed a scheme that reflects the materiality and pared-back look of Carl Friedrik’s products. The design was intended to emulate an art gallery, ensuring that the products take center stage. The space incorporates a practical, welcoming atmosphere with minimal alterations due to the building’s listed status, retaining features like ornate cornicing and Versailles oak flooring.

Interior Details

The walls, previously painted a cold grey, were given a lighter and warmer shade to maximize natural light. Drapes provide a theatrical backdrop for products, enhancing the gallery-like aesthetic. The space includes bespoke plinths made from stained oak or lacquered wood in Carl Friedrik’s brand color, designed to be easily dismantled and reused due to the short-term lease.

Material Palette and Furniture

To complement the design, aluminium and chrome accents were introduced, including reflective bases for plinths and brushed aluminium for a custom display table. The store’s layout features a cosy lounge area with mid-century armchairs, a marble coffee table, and a woven bench around an existing fireplace. Lighting and display accessories were carefully chosen, including portable lamps by &tradition and metallic details from Philippi.

Artistic Touches

Artworks by Daniëlle Siobhán and Melanie Anne Haynes add focal points, enhancing the store’s gallery-like feel. The inclusion of decorative elements such as stonemason Tiger Nicholson’s display trays and yellow blooms further complements the overall design.

Future Vision

Carl Friedrik plans to open additional stores that replicate the Regent Street location’s minimalistic and rich material style. This project reflects Tabitha Organ’s expertise, having established her studio in 2023 after working with notable firms like Conran and Partners and Tatjana von Stein.
