Natural Landscape in Mexico

Nestled within the natural landscape of La Peña, Mexico, a collection of four stunning abodes stands proudly atop rocky cliffs, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding natural beauty. This 34,000-square-foot, 1 ½-acre compound represents a harmonious fusion of architectural innovation and environmental stewardship.

Sustainable Design Approach

The visionary minds behind this project, Iua Ignacio Urquiza Arquitectos and APDA, embarked on a journey of comprehensive research to ensure that the construction of these structures would have minimal impact on the pristine botanic surroundings. Their commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of the design, from the careful siting of the buildings to the integration of natural elements like boulders into the architecture. Full-height sliding glass walls further enhance the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing residents to immerse themselves in the stunning natural landscape.

Access and Integration with Nature

Access to this architectural marvel is facilitated by a quaint cobble-stone street that winds its way through the rugged terrain, leading visitors to a central square where cars are left behind, and the journey continues on foot. This intentional design choice not only minimizes the environmental footprint of the development but also encourages a deeper appreciation of the natural surroundings. As residents make their way to their respective homes, they are greeted by a series of structures, each offering a unique interpretation of the same set of modules.

Customized Interiors

While the exterior of each abode reflects the rugged beauty of its cliffside location, the interiors tell a different story. Here, the vision of the homeowner takes center stage, with interiors customized to their preferences. A team of skilled artisans, including ceramicists, goldsmiths, marble workers, and cabinet makers, collaborated to bring these visions to life. Therefore, infusing each space with the rich tapestry of Mexico’s cultural heritage.

In recognition of its exceptional design and seamless integration with the natural landscape, this project was honored as the 2023 Best of Year Winner for Large Country House.
