Tall Architects: X-shaped Alabama cabin in black metal

Tucked away near a serene river in southern Alabama, the Fowl River Cabin stands as a testament to modern architectural ingenuity. Designed by US-based studio Tall Architects, this stunning residence captivates with its unique X-shaped form and striking corrugated metal cladding.

Embracing the Landscape

Situated in Theodore, Alabama, the Fowl River Cabin seamlessly integrates into its natural surroundings, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding trees and waterways. The architects meticulously analyzed the site to ensure minimal disturbance to existing vegetation and optimal engagement with the landscape.

Elevated Elegance

Rising four feet above the ground on slender steel columns, the cabin boasts two stacked gabled forms clad in sleek black corrugated metal. This elevated design not only complies with local building codes but also provides enhanced resilience against floodwaters and adverse weather conditions.

Sustainable Design Solutions

The choice of black corrugated metal cladding not only lends a contemporary aesthetic but also reflects the architects’ commitment to sustainability. Made from recycled materials, the cladding offers durability and weather resistance while minimizing environmental impact.

Dynamic Interiors

Inside, the Fowl River Cabin exudes a sense of warmth and openness, with public areas located on the lower level for seamless indoor-outdoor living. A central core and staircase intersect the X-shaped layout, leading to private suites on the upper floor and a charming porch that overlooks the tranquil surroundings.

Thoughtful Environmental Integration

Passive design strategies, such as natural cross-ventilation and elevated foundations, contribute to the cabin’s thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Solar panels mounted on the roof harness renewable energy, further reducing its ecological footprint.

Harmonious Contrast

The interior palette, curated by owner Jill Dupre, strikes a harmonious balance between modernity and natural elements. Light-filled spaces adorned with natural wood flooring and metallic accents provide a serene retreat from the rugged exterior.

A Modern Oasis

The Fowl River Cabin by Tall Architects stands as a beacon of modern living amidst Alabama’s picturesque landscape. With its innovative design, sustainable features, and seamless integration with nature. It offers a tranquil sanctuary for its inhabitants to unwind and connect with the great outdoors.
