With so many options available, choosing the perfect insulation board can be challenging and daunting.

There are a variety of options designed for specific uses within the building, in addition to standard insulation panels.

Definition of insulation panels

Solid panels made of a variety of materials, designed to retain heat or prevent sound transmission within a building.

Insulating panels are one of the most common forms,

and using comprehensive insulation inside a building, be it a home or an office,

will significantly reduce energy bills and keep rooms warm.

Common options are PIR and PUR foam boards.

These rigid foam panels can be used throughout a construction project,

whether they are made of polyisocyanurate (PIR) or polyurethane (PUR).

They are also designed for specific areas such as hollow walls or warm flat surfaces.

Extruded polystyrene (EPS) insulation boards or extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation boards are also available for use in polystyrene,

XPS is highly pressure resistant, making it useful for floor insulation.

While EPS is more expensive, you can also purchase solid glass wool panels that provide strong levels of thermal insulation in a variety of settings.

Older forms of insulation board sometimes contained asbestos, but its use is illegal today.

How to cut insulation boards

In the event that the foam boards are on a hard surface, they can be simply cut with a utility knife and a ruler,

and it is necessary to use a mask and ventilate the room, if the cutting is by using a table.

EPS can also be cut with a knife or saw, but this will tend to leave a messy surface due to the board’s structure.

The cleaner option is to use a hot wire cutter, which can result in a cleaner, more precise cut.

Where XPF can be cut with a utility knife if it is too thick for a hot wire cutter.

It is also best to cut the glass wool boards with a utility knife,

using a ruler to ensure clean and accurate separation.

Brands used in the manufacture of insulation boards

There is a variety of leading insulating board brands, and Celotex is one of the most popular sandwich panel manufacturers.

They manufacture standard plasterboard, insulated plasterboard, and panels for use throughout the home.

Kingspan produces a range of high quality panels suitable for various uses in the Al Banna project,

as it is the leading insulation company in the market.

While Recticel produces standard insulation boards, as well as insulation boards intended for use inside flat roofs or hollow walls.

We also have a variety of other insulation board manufacturers, such as Ecotherm,

Knauf and Styline. These can be general boards or boards designed for specific applications.

There are also manufacturers of sound insulation panels, which are designed to reduce unwanted noise inside a building.

How to use insulation panels to insulate walls

When we talk about using insulation boards inside a wall,

we are really talking about three separate things, which are external wall insulation,

internal wall and stud wall.

Solid panels can also be installed on the exterior wall when looking for an exterior wall insulation,

using an adhesive mortar.

You will also need to use an insulating board designed specifically for exterior walls,

as it should provide waterproofing.

A great option is the Kingspan Kooltherm K5 outdoor panel, w

hich resists air and water vapor leakage.

Installing exterior wall panels is a specialized task, potentially beyond the capabilities of a non-professional.
