The Royal Commission for Al-Ula has signed a contract with the leading business group, Systra, to design the Al-Ula train.
This step helps to strengthen the comprehensive development plan for the governorate,
linking it directly to several stations and roads, including historical and heritage monuments.
This announcement comes in line with the innovation and development drive of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the next two decades in Saudi Arabia.
Which is based on several main pillars, including environmental sustainability and future economics, which are embodied in Vision 2030.
The design of the AlUla train is elegant and modern
Al-Ula train is part of the key projects of the Time Journey Plan and the main pillar of the Governorate Development Program.
This aims to turn it into a global center for arts, heritage, culture and nature, in line with Vision 2030.
The Royal Commission for Al-Ula Governorate also seeks,
through the signing, to promote sustainability in transport and reduce congestion and noise on the roads.
The train will be powered by sustainable energy and will connect many areas, neighborhoods,
heritage and tourist sites, and will provide a tourist experience that celebrates the beauty of the natural environment.
Al-Ula train extends for 50 kilometers and starts from the international airport in the south and ends in Al-Hajar city in the north.
The design of its vehicles will be inspired by the historical and natural heritage of Al-Ula as part of the efforts to achieve the vision of Al-Ula,
to turn it into a global tourism center and the largest living museum in the world.
The train is an important step in achieving comprehensive sustainable development in the province.
Providing modern forms of public transformation is one of the main pillars of the authority’s plans to transform AlUla into a sustainable global destination for living and tourism.
Al-Ula is famous for its stunning natural and desert attractions such as Al-Hajar,
the Old City, Al-Diwan, Al-Ukma and the Lion Tombs in Dadan.
The tram will enhance the tourist experience that celebrates the beauty of the natural environment.
And that the train tracks will be part of an entire network of public transportation that will have little impact on the environment and will be easily accessible and usable for everyone throughout the province.
The first phase of the design is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
The design of the AlUla train is elegant and modern
Train project will be divided into several routes.
The first will connect the northern “red” line and connect the most important tourist areas and archaeological sites,
and will allow you to easily navigate between the different main stations of the journey through time.
The second line will extend from the southern parts of the governorate.
Third, it will extend for a distance of 33 kilometers, and will extend all the way to the international airport,
to enhance the position of Al-Ula as a transportation hub.
The Al-Ula train will be easily accessible to pedestrians and various types of transport.
The Royal Commission for AlUla aims to improve the quality of services provided to AlUla residents and visitors through a sustainable transportation system.
In January, it launched a self-driving electric car service in the Old Town,
representing a prime example of future sustainable transportation sought in the county.
And the French ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ludovic Pouille, published a message on his official account on Twitter,
commenting on the news: “Congratulations to the committee and Sistra.”
And the Royal Commission for Al-Ula Governorate tweeted:
“Al-Ula was the meeting point of the convoys throughout history, where the routes that connect the trips were drawn… Today we are establishing a new stage by signing the #Ula_tram contract, the design in a step that promotes the achievement of the comprehensive development of the province.”
