The Line exhibited at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale

Prior to the opening of the exhibition, more than 20 internationally recognized architects and designers joined the design team,

including Sir Peter Cook, Massimiliano Foucas, Jean Nouvel and Ben van Berkel.

The exhibition is open from May 20 to September 24, 2023 in Abbazia di San Gregorio, Venice.

The exhibition was organized in the historic Abbazia di San Gregorio,

one of the oldest buildings in Venice.

Inside, a large-scale model of Neum occupies the central courtyard to highlight the font’s integration with its natural environment.

In addition to The Line, several other NEOM regions have been introduced,

including Oxagon, Trojena, and Sindalah.

The event is centered around the concept of “Zero Gravity Urbanism”,

It is an alternative paradigm to current urban design that prioritizes a minimal footprint as a means of achieving better integration within the natural environment.

Effective distribution of jobs within the city to reduce infrastructure needs.

Future Lab

The installation also presents the seven guiding principles of the new type of urban development:

Excessive proximity, hyper-connectivity, minimal footprint, public domain everywhere,

mixed-use, multi-city, and invisible infrastructure.

The gallery also hosts a series of public events,

talks and discussions featuring noted architects, academics and urban thinkers.

The agenda of upcoming events includes conversations with Rainer de Graaf on the ways language shapes urbanization, Adrian MacGregor,

Wynka Dubeldam and Martin Rein Cano on social cohesion and climate resilience,

and Daniel Ibáñez and Felipe Correa on new ways of living.

This year’s edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale opened with 63 national pavilions,

all centered around emerging themes,

Aroused by Leslie Loko’s call to regard Africa as the “laboratory of the future”.

Besides the pavilions, a series of side events,

exhibitions and conferences are set to further expand the theme.

and diversify perspectives on relevant issues, challenges,

and opportunities for the architectural profession.
