The UIA World Congress of Architects announces its program for Copenhagen 2023,
The 28th UIA World Conference of Architects announced its programme,
which features influential and innovative profiles in the built environment.
The UIA World Congress of Architects, for the first time to be held in a Nordic country, Copenhagen,
will be held in Copenhagen from 2 to 6 July 2023.
The conference program will welcome speakers who have strong contributions to architecture,
science, business and politics, as well as sustainable approaches to new solutions and approaches.
Among the keynote speakers at 2023 UIA World 2023 are BIG Founder Bjarke Ingels, socially minded Burkinabe architect,
Diébédo Francis Kéré, President EC Ursula von der Leyen,
Director of MASS Design Group Christian Benimana Architects Conference in Copenhagen.
The conference theme is “Sustainable Futures – Leave No One Behind”,
which aims to highlight the potential of architecture to shape better societies and contribute to a sustainable future.
The overall program of the UIA 2023 World Conference of Architects is organized under five main pillars:
The first pillar, Keynote Dialogues,
is designed as a series of conversations between leading architects and experts from science, business and politics.
Connie Hedegaard will direct all major dialogue.
The second pillar
is the Next Generation sessions, which will provide a space for young people and their voices,
to open a window to the future and start a dialogue between generations.
The third pillar
is paper presentations from around the world.
Presentations will feature 250 contributors to showcase the latest knowledge,
drive change by challenging architectural standards, and connecting research and practice in new ways.
Velux Daylight Talks will explore the importance of natural light in architecture and architects who actively work with daylight in their projects,
while the final pillar, The Obel Award Talks will highlight architectural contributions to people and the planet,
with award-winning projects that challenge the status quo.
While the program is still in progress, sessions explore six themes: climate resilience, health, inclusiveness,
and partnerships for change, resilient communities, and rethinking resources.
The Bella Center in Copenhagen is the main venue for the UIA 2023 World Congress of Architects,
while pavilions, tours and side events are distributed throughout the city.
Sustainable Future – Leave no one behind
The conference will feature 10-15 booths with additional programme, 14+ architectural tours and over 50 side events.
All tours require participation in the UIA World Congress of Architects 2023,
with some tours requiring an additional ticket.
The UIA World Congress is usually held every third year with 10-15,000 participants from all over the world.
The conference was held in Seoul in 2017, but due to the circumstances surrounding the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus,
Conference was held in Rio in 2021.
The theme for the UIA World Conference of Architects 2023 will focus on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
“Each of our keynote speakers has made unique contributions to the fields of architecture,
science, politics and business, and we are proud to have them come to Copenhagen,” said Congress President Natalie Mosin.
“We ask them to engage in dialogues that range across all of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,
and across cultures and climates,” she added.
“Together with the rest of the programme,
we hope the Keynotes will help shape a vital understanding of global challenges and inspire sustainable action in the built environment,” Musin added.
