Tokinari: incense to convey times by Kondo Chinatsu

The project brings the sense of “ma”, a Japanese concept that relates to all aspects of life, often described as a pause in time, finding meaning in distance and time.  The “ma” is found in Tokinari by using incense and sound.

It holds the incense upside down making the smoke dance around the object.

After the incense is gone, the piece that was keeping it in place runs down making a sound when it lands in the bowl where the burned incense remains.

This piece makes you stop in time and enjoy the magic of simplicity.

As a design student, Kondo Chinatsu participated in the bud brand Award 2022. A project for the next generation of talented Japanese creators.

The theme for this year was pause/margin ” ␣ ” inviting designers to make everyday life more enjoyable.

Not to rush, appreciate each moment as unique, as ephemeral.
