Unveiling of the Han Bao Te Memorial Museum in Taiwan,
Renowned Taiwanese architect Chris Yau has finally completed a small monument to his mentor, after seven years of struggle.
Professor Han Bao-tee is widely recognized as one of the leading figures in modern architectural education in Taiwan.
A memorial museum has been brought up at Tainan National University of Arts (TNNUA),
honoring his work and contributions to the arts and architecture.
An educational institution established by Han himself, to display his work and collections,
the Memorial Museum seamlessly blends exhibition and teaching spaces together,
as an embodiment of Han’s take on museology and education values.
Design features
Adhering to the architectural concept of a “cube within a cube”,
the simplicity of its geometric composition brings great power to its metaphorical meanings.
The many faces of the two cubes colliding indicate Han’s many faces of knowledge and ability.
Strong quality of the architectural concrete indicates his indomitable spirit of social education.
In terms of spatial arrangements, visitors enter the building from a gently sloping slope above the reflecting pool to the side of the cube.

While the main exhibition hall of the students is amusedly intruded,
by the imposition of a cubic mass, as if untouched by the law of gravity.
The exhibition hall is an impressive space measuring 13.5 meters high,
while the floating cube contains the “Han Pao-Teh Permanent Exhibition Room”.
It is a two-story, hall-like space projecting slightly diagonally from the larger cube.
The round cube caused a split on the wall as the light came furiously;
The sharp contrast of light and shadow creates a melodramatic atmosphere in the long exhibition space.
