Various daily uses of bioplastics,

The whole world is looking towards combating pollution, so the global trend is now towards designing things that are compostable or biodegradable under specific conditions.
However, experts have raised concerns that we currently lack the necessary waste management infrastructure to properly dispose of these bioplastics.

Sequin bodysuit

British fashion brand Stella McCartney recently launched a sleeveless bodysuit,
Decorated with bio-plastic sequins made from tree cellulose by material innovation company Radiant Matter.
The sequins were developed as an alternative to petroleum-based plastic decorations,
which the brand says can contain carcinogenic chemicals.
Radiant Matter is made from renewable cellulose extracted from trees.
It has a crystalline shape that reflects light and gives the product a sparkling quality.

Clingfilm alternative

Great Wrap is an alternative to bioplastic films,
which is designed to decompose in a landfill or industrial compost within 180 days.
Australian biomaterials company Great Wrap produces the plastic film by extracting and softening the starch found in waste potato peels.
The resulting thermoplastic starch is then mixed with used cooking oil and starchy root vegetables,
Which cassava is called to change its polymer structure so that it can be used as a stretch film.

Bioplastic vinyl

Music and sustainability collective Evolution Music has released, A 12-inch vinyl record made from bioplastic after a four-year development process.

This was necessary to identify a base polymer that functions similarly to traditional PVC but without the harmful, emission-intensive components.

Mark Carey, CEO of Evolution Music, said:

“It is a strong, environmentally safe, compostable material specifically created to perform and sound like PVC-derived vinyl.”
