The XGO-Mini robot dog is the human’s new best buddy

XGO-Mini

XGO-Mini – active and nimble quadruped robot with 12 degrees of freedom that can communicate with you via voice and image.

The device is a full-motion robotic dog that can hear, recognize, and respond to users much like the real thing. According to Luwu, a STEM education technology firm and the designers of XGO-Mini. This may appear to be excessive, but is it?

All of the idiosyncrasies of old sci-fi movies are swiftly becoming a reality, thanks to breakthroughs in engineering and the possibilities AI can offer to a product. In any case, the notion isn’t new—’dogbots’ have been around since Sony released the classic AIBO in the 1990s.

The notion has only lately gained traction, with businesses like Luwu dedicating themselves to products like the XGO-Mini, after MIT spin-off Boston Dynamics showed their fleet of dog-like robots called Spot.

So, what distinguishes XGO-Mini from Spot? There aren’t many differences, save that it’s smaller—roughly the size of a desktop computer. The XGO-Mini, like Spot, offers 12 degrees of freedom thanks to inverse kinematics. It behaves, walks, and reacts in the same way that a dog does, and it can go over uneven terrain and incredibly rough surfaces.

XGO-Mini Features

The XGO-Mini joints are equipped with a variety of sensors, DC motors, reduction gears, and a 9-axis IMU (basically, a control circuit). In the end, the XGO-Mini is very agile and capable of a wide range of tasks.

XGO-Mini can perform pretty much any dynamic movement you’d expect of a dog with minimum training because of its unique bionic system. That means no flips or fancy stunts are in store, but the XGO-Mini can alter its height to avoid obstructions.

It comes with fully functional AI modules for both beginner and advanced AI applications. The Al modules include sight, speech, and gesture recognition, allowing XGO-Mini to hear, identify, and respond to users in the same way as a real dog would. It can also scan QR codes, track numerous colors, and remind you to put on your mask.

The XGO-Mini comes as an assembled kit with a one-button design, making it simple to use right away. AI can function on local systems and be controlled without the internet or a mobile device, though there’s an app.

XGO-Mini is open-source, meaning you can program it yourself or utilize other people’s programming using ROS and Python AI systems. If you wish to help, the small quadruped dog robot is now soliciting funds on Kickstarter.
