Significant progress in project implementation
The Riyadh Development Authority announced the completion of 5 out of 6 bridges in the New Square Project, one of the major projects that aims to transform the Saudi capital into a global hub for business and tourism.
This step comes as part of the infrastructure plan to facilitate movement within the city, as the bridges will be used to direct truck traffic away from main roads, which contributes to reducing traffic congestion and improving the flow of traffic.
The importance of bridges in improving the transportation network
Reports issued by the Saudi Ministry of Transport and Logistics indicate that trucks constitute approximately 20% of the total traffic on highways, which increases pressure on the infrastructure and affects the flow of other vehicles, especially in major cities such as Riyadh.
The ministry’s studies also show that traffic congestion causes economic losses estimated at 50 billion Saudi riyals annually as a result of delaying the movement of individuals and goods and increasing fuel consumption.
These bridges are expected to reduce travel times by up to 25% within the targeted areas, by allocating separate lanes for trucks, which reduces their friction with small vehicles and limits traffic accidents.
According to Saudi traffic statistics, trucks are responsible for 30% of accidents on highways due to their heavy loads and their impact on traffic flow.

Project completion date and expected impact
According to the Riyadh Development Authority, the sixth bridge is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2025.
This project is expected to contribute to enhancing the transportation infrastructure within the capital, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to make Riyadh one of the 10 largest urban economies in the world.

In addition, the 19-square-kilometre #New_Corner project will, upon completion, accommodate more than 9,000 hotel rooms, 104,000 residential units, and hundreds of commercial and entertainment facilities, making it a global multi-use centre, supported by advanced infrastructure that suits its future needs.
The #New_Murabba project has made significant progress with the completion of 5 out of 6 bridges, which will be used to direct trucks away from main roads, contributing to reducing congestion and improving traffic flow by 25%. According to the Saudi Ministry of Transport, congestion costs the Saudi economy 50 billion riyals annually, and trucks are responsible for 30% of accidents on highways. The sixth bridge is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2025, enhancing infrastructure development and supporting Saudi Vision 2030.
