Overview

The Alt Urban Housing Challenge is launched by TARA, a social enterprise of the Development Alternatives Group, in partnership with the Dhun Life Project. This competition supports the Alt Urban Campaign, which aims to create healthy, inclusive, and regenerative cities. The campaign is on a mission to enable one million green homes by 2030. The challenge encourages innovative housing design solutions that are sustainable and climate-resilient, addressing the future of urban living.

Key Highlights

  • Open to All: Architects, planners, designers, engineers, artists, and enthusiasts. There are no eligibility criteria, and you can participate individually or as a team.
  • Two-Stage Process:
    1. Submission of Concept Proposal: Shortlisted candidates will attend the Jaipur Design Meet for site visits, co-learning sessions, and a cultural retreat.
    2. Submission of Detailed Proposal: Results will be announced at the Alt Urban Global Summit in Delhi. Shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to exhibit their work at the summit.
  • Registration Benefits: Full access to expert-led dialogues, training programs, and workshops. One representative from each team will also get free access to the Alt Urban Summit in Delhi.

Submission Details

  • Concept Proposal: Submit by 17th January 2025.
  • Detailed Proposal: Shortlisted participants will have six weeks after results are announced to submit their detailed design proposals.
  • Travel Costs: All travel costs related to site visits, summits, or any competition-related events will be borne by participants.

The deadline for registration and submission of concept proposals is 17th January 2025. Register by 15th December 2024 to secure an early bird discount.

Judging Criteria

Judging will be based on the creativity, sustainability, feasibility, and impact of the design in line with the Alt Urban campaign’s goals. The selected team will also have the opportunity for future collaboration with the developer, based on the design’s alignment with the developer’s vision.
