The work, titled “The Comedian,” had previously sold for amounts ranging between $120,000 and $150,000 per copy. Sotheby’s auction house announced the display of one of the copies in the auction this November, with an initial estimate of between $1 million and $1.5 million, but the final price far exceeded expectations, reaching $6 million.

It is worth noting that this artwork has sparked discussions about the concept of art and value, as some see it as a challenge to traditional standards of art, while others consider it an example of “greenwashing” in the art world. However, “The Comedian” remains a symbol of innovation and boldness in artistic expression.

At an auction held today, the banana attached with duct tape, the famous artwork by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, was sold for $6 million. This work, which has sparked widespread controversy since its first exhibition at the “Art Basel Miami Beach” exhibition in 2019, embodies the simplicity of the idea and the depth of the impact, as it consists of a real banana attached with duct tape to a wall.
