Beam Center is looking for design ideas for large-scale public artworks that will be created through partnerships between young people and innovative big thinkers. At each of the three locations for the 2023 Beam Project—New Hampshire (NH), Governors Island (GI), and NYC. A community of more than 100 young people will carry out projects. Artists are encouraged to submit suggestions for one, two, or all three of these locations. But each proposal must be particular to that location. It is also encouraged for artists submitting proposals to Beam Project NYC to think about potential installation locations and collaborators and to include these in their submissions. Moreover, a committee made up of Beam Center professionals, young people, former designers, and community members will choose the winning proposals.
Furthermore, Beam Center is a nonprofit organization with headquarters in Brooklyn that emphasizes self-directed learning through the creation of large-scale projects in teams. All young people, according to Beam Center, are capable of amazing feats. Moreover, we’ve been demonstrating it for 18 years in schools all throughout New York City, at Beam Camp. And at Beam Camp City, where kids carry out big projects created by elite engineers, architects, and artists.
For Beam Projects NH and GI, applications must be received by Monday, September 12, 2022, at 11:59 PM EST. And for Beam Project NYC, by Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11:59 PM EST.
Selected artists will receive a $5,000 award and will be eligible for space in Summer 2023 Artist in Residence Program.
