The NAUTICAL CLUB OHRID architecture competition has been announced by TerraViva. Creative Adaptive-Reuse ideas aimed at renovating the “Youth Union Summer Retreat” building in Ohrid, North Macedonia, are invited to submit.

Participants in the competition are tasked with creating a Nautical & Social Club that will breathe new life into an over 70-year-old building, which has been vacant for more than 20 years. The goal is to establish a vibrant social area that is accessible to both the local community and temporary tourists, drawing inspiration from Boris Chipan’s original program. By providing an alternative to the more luxurious Eastern Ohrid, this initiative aims to draw tourists to the western side of the lakeside.

Winners chosen by an international jury panel consisting of Simon Kilbane (The University of Western Australia), Mario Gentile (Shiftspace), Yuqing Zhang (Reed Hilderbrand), and Ana Ivanovska Deskova (Ss. Cyril & Methodius University) will receive prizes totaling up to €7,000.

Brief

It is up to the participants to imagine how the old building can be modified to accommodate modern needs while maintaining its historical significance and beautiful setting. The target audiences for design suggestions should be varied, ranging from locals searching for amusement to tourists seeking relaxation and lovers of water sports.
