Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition 2023

Now in its 30th year, the Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition recognizes the exceptional work of North American architects and designers who feature Italian ceramic tiles in their institutional, residential and commercial spaces. 

The competition is open to all North American architects, interior designers and students. Domestic and international new construction and renovation projects completed between January 2018 and January 2023 are eligible for entry in the residential, commercial and institutional categories. Students must be enrolled at an accredited university in North America to be eligible.

Prize: 

Winners in the built-project categories will receive a 5-day CEU trip to Italy to attend Cersaie. The world’s largest exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings, alongside a delegation of top design media.  Also, all category winners will receive an expense-paid trip to Coverings 2023 in Orlando, FL – the largest international tile and stone exhibition in North America – where they will attend the show and present their projects in front of a large audience of design and trade media, manufacturers, and tile industry professionals.

Judging Criteria: 

A panel of design experts will judge the projects based on their creativity, functionality, sustainability and aesthetic appeal. The official criterion for the jury includes: the project’s overall design, the innovative use of tile, tile design, the degree to which Italian tile enhances the setting, the amount of ceramic or porcelain tile from Ceramics of Italy member companies used throughout the project, the quality of the tile installation, and the project’s sustainable attributes.

Deadline: December 19, 2022. 

*Winners will be notified in February 2023 and officially announced at the Ceramics of Italy Press Conference at Coverings 2023 in Orlando, Florida.

Eligibility: 

Commercial, Institutional, Multi-Family Residential, and Single-Family Residential projects completed between January 2018 and January 2023 are eligible in the built categories. Projects can be new construction or renovation. And domestic or international as long as the architect or designer is based in North America. 

*As this competition celebrates the use of Italian tile, projects must feature a significant amount of ceramic or porcelain tile from at least one Ceramics of Italy member company. Click here for a full list of Ceramics of Italy member companies.*

Furthermore, students submitting imaginative spaces in the form of renderings, floor plans and/or sketches can work in teams or individually. Students must be enrolled at an accredited university in North America to be eligible.
