Competition to submit two urban and landscape design projects on the new urban metabolism,

The 16th edition of Europan focuses on living cities as a new paradigm,

by looking at new kinds of synergies between environmental,

biological, social, economic, cultural and political dimensions.

This model will lead to good thinking in terms of co-evolution and interactions,

combining metabolic and holistic bio-elements, and also working with the dynamics of the regenerative project.

The Italian cities of Bitonto and San Dona Venezia are looking for ideas to implement a project that creates a strategic urban recovery,

and intend to start the implementation process with the awarded teams.

Project sites in BITONTO

The project is based on a system of squares in Bitonto, Palombaio, Mariotto,

where the strength of the small villages lies in their rural context and location in accessing the Alta Murgia Park.

These villages are located at a distance of 7 and 11 km from the center,

and new development based on alternative energy sources must be activated.

It is also based on outdoor living and on local values that must be linked to Bitonto’s city centre.

The strategic location is represented by the natural path that runs from towards the Alta Murgia Park, using sections of the Via Cela.

It is the catalyst for activating new functions of the natural environment,

which will bring benefits to the small villages in the cultural, social and economic level.

The distance between the city and the hamlets will be reduced by the ability of the

Europan project to make the values of each dialogue an urban center in order to build a regional value.

From Lama Balice Park to Alta Murgia National Park, the Nature Trail is an opportunity to create new urban/regional metabolisms,

and is still under construction.

Project location in SAN DONA ‘VENEZIA

The ATVO bus station, will be moved to the Portanova Centre,

away from the project site in the historical center of the city.

New functions and services must be considered, given the strategic location and economic impact of commercial activities in the urban center.

Europan’s proposals should promote the strengthening of the cultural center

with respect to its development axis linking the Vitoria Bridge along the Piave River,

up to the new multimodal axis of Porta Nuova.

This enhancement is done with some spaces in the renovation phase,

and the site will become strategic to stimulate new metabolic processes that include the city centre.

It will also be appropriate to promote dialogue with the new poles and to promote social contact on a large scale and new forms of economy.

Defining a process like Europan aims to engage and engage

all the actors interested in urban development to make the city attractive and dynamic.

The opportunity provided by the site of the competition,

promoted by the city of San Dona and ATVO,

which provided citizens with a strategic area.
