Completed Tiffany & Co’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York,

OMA’s New York office, led by OMA partner Shohei Shigematsu, has completed a new flagship store for Tiffany & Co.,

American luxury jewelry house and design specialist.

The new flagship store, located at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York, United States,

It consists of a redesign with improved infrastructure and the addition of three floors above the building.

Designed by OMA Partner Shohei Shigematsu and Shigematsu and Associate Jake Forster,

The sober form of the existing 10-storey limestone building was crowned by a glass box resembling a “jewelry box”.

Design features

The building’s interiors were designed by Peter Marino, who reimagined the historic building as a diverse business and cultural institution.

The project opened its doors to the public on April 28, and marks the first large-scale renovation of the store since it opened in 1940.

Now known as the “Landmark,” the building invites visitors to discover the history and range of Tiffany & Co. merchandise in a pioneering, redefined environment of shared offerings and experiences.

The early master plan informed the new realignment of the core of the existing building to create a clear elevator lobby and improved flow,

and a new three-story volume above the limestone building.

The addition includes a dedicated gallery,

event and customer space to accommodate a variety of projects and programs for the brand.

The Landmark is a ten-storey building entirely dedicated to one brand.

This made the team rethink the experience of Tiffany & Co.’s extensive jewelry collection as well as its diverse programs.

The first floor is a beloved, timeless destination and an iconic cornerstone of New York’s Fifth Avenue,

and the team introduced enhanced infrastructure to extend this identity and cosmopolitan energy in the building.

Anchoring the rich vertical experience is a new gathering space that reflects the dynamism of the ground level,

recessed from the edge of the building to provide a wraparound balcony.

An additional volume floats above the event space,

wrapped in a glass “curtain” that adds a touch of softness to the harsh curtain walls of the neighboring towers.

The result is a transparent display to signal new pioneering activities –

a contemporary finish to the historic building and a symbolic launch of a renewed brand.
