A family home covered with a folded roof to create the feel of a tent-like structure on the seashore in Kuwait.
The house, designed by TAEP/AAP architecture firm based in Kuwait, Portugal and France, features
With its folded and perforated roof structure that protects its occupants.
The house called “Tent House”, which has an area of 2,390 square meters, is located in the Khairan area in southern Kuwait.
It overlooks a charming waterfront on the coast of the Arabian Gulf.
Theoretically, the TAEP/AAP program aims to create a separate shelter structure for a family wishing to vacation under a lightweight roof.
TAEP/AAP said: “The people of the Arabian Peninsula have a long tradition of leaving the cities on holidays,
They often travel to the seaside or to the desert to set up temporary infrastructure and spend quality time with their families.”
Design features
The design of the house was inspired by “the importance of shade in a hot desert climate.”
The house consists of five segmented units that share a common folded concrete white roof.
The roof is designed to provide protection from the sun and wind while letting in light during the day and night.
The studio created perforated skin for the ceiling so that the ceiling
can filter sunlight into the interior spaces and provide views of the sky through rectangular pieces.
The outdoor spaces on the ground floor are designed to serve as common social areas.
It is designed as an oasis with plants and gardens surrounding a central water element.
The outer gardens are crowned by two double-height shaded spaces that connect
the interior of the site to the beach and further accentuate the main façade.
The views of the two internal units are fixed to overlook the vision.
The office said: “Tent housing is designed to maintain privacy from access and direct neighbors.
while maximizing the openness and transparency of the private beach with waterfront glass facades and garden terraces.”
The studio added, “The tent residence simultaneously achieves the status of a desert camp,
a beach house and, above all, a gathering place.”
