Dubai Introduces New Direct Service on Red Line to Ease Congestion

Home » News » Dubai Introduces New Direct Service on Red Line to Ease Congestion

On September 3, 2025, a new direct service began operating on Dubai Metro’s Red Line, aimed at facilitating passenger movement during peak hours and reducing overcrowding on trains and platforms.

Details of the New Service

The new service connects Centrepoint Station with Al Fardan Exchange Station, operating during morning and evening rush hours. With this addition, the Red Line now offers three direct routes, providing passengers with more efficient travel options and reducing the need to change trains.

Background of the Development

Earlier, a direct service linking Centrepoint Station to Expo City Station was launched, eliminating the need for passengers traveling to Expo City or Life Pharmacy Station to stop at Jebel Ali. The updated routes allow trains to alternate between Expo City Dubai and UAE Exchange terminals, while continuing to serve Life Pharmacy and Al Fardan Exchange stations directly.

Impact on Passenger Flow

The direct services have reduced overcrowding on trains and platforms, shortened waiting times for passengers, lowered energy consumption by reducing total train distances, and improved overall operational efficiency on the Red Line.

Managing the Transition

Additional staff were deployed at stations during the initial weeks to guide passengers and ensure a smooth transition to the new system.

✦ ArchUp Editorial Insight

This article presents the new direct service on Dubai Metro’s Red Line as an initiative to optimize spatial flow during peak hours. The direct connection from Centrepoint to Al Fardan Exchange demonstrates a functional and visual strategy, reducing platform congestion and streamlining passenger movement. However, it raises questions regarding its integration with overall passenger distribution along other stations and whether the solution offers long-term operational sustainability or a temporary improvement. Nevertheless, the service delivers clear value in enhancing efficiency and reducing wait times, providing a practical and experiential dimension to the metro travel experience.
