Delta Airlines’ Terminal C is a comfortable and welcoming area for guests, with towering interior spaces and plenty of natural light thanks to Corgan. Different spaces are connected by site-specific art that was commissioned in collaboration with the nearby Queens Museum. Sculptor Virginia Overton created Skylight Gems, an installation that invites viewers to appreciate the thrill and spectacle of flight, by suspending a collection of salvaged skylights from the atrium ceiling. To manage glare and heat gain, the design incorporates a sizable thermal storage system as well as electrochromic smart glass.
