Cheongju Craft Biennale 2027

The 15th Cheongju Craft Biennale will take place from September 2 to October 31, 2027, in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, under the theme “Back to Human.” The Biennale will explore the enduring value of craft in an era increasingly shaped by technology and artificial intelligence, highlighting the role of human senses, emotions, creativity, and connection in contemporary craft.

The 2027 edition will be led by Kim Ye-sung, the youngest artistic director in the history of the Cheongju Craft Biennale. Through exhibitions, artworks, and cultural programs, the event will examine how craft can preserve human experiences and encourage meaningful connections between people, materials, and their surroundings.

Poland will be the Guest of Honour for the 2027 edition, presented through a partnership with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The program will showcase contemporary Polish craft and introduce Korean audiences to the diversity and creativity of Poland’s current craft scene.

The Biennale will also be accompanied by the CheongJu International Craft Competition 2027, an international competition open to participants aged 18 and above, with no nationality restrictions. The competition welcomes works from all areas of craft and aims to highlight the contemporary and future potential of craft across different materials, techniques, and creative approaches.

Through its exhibitions, international collaborations, and competition programs, the 15th Cheongju Craft Biennale aims to reaffirm craft as a powerful form of human expression and a bridge between tradition, contemporary creativity, technology, and the future.
