Oslo Architecture Triennale 2026

The 9th edition of the Oslo Architecture Triennale (OAT) will take place from September 17 to October 1, 2026, with Sofienberg Church serving as the main venue. Under the theme “What if Nature Comes First?”, the triennale brings together architects, designers, artists, researchers, and environmental thinkers to explore how architecture and urban development can respond to the needs and limits of the natural world.

The 2026 edition examines the possibility of placing nature, ecology, and biodiversity at the center of architectural thinking and decision-making. Through exhibitions, conferences, workshops, seminars, and outdoor activities, the festival questions conventional approaches to construction, urban planning, resources, and economic development.

The program opens on September 17 with an Opening Conference, followed by the opening of the main exhibition and an evening celebration at Sofienberg Church. Other highlights include “The New Stone Age” seminar, a guided ravine walk along Torshovbekken, the launch of Paradigme – New Voices for Nature, and the “Nature and Economy” conference, which explores the relationship between ecological priorities and economic systems.

The triennale creates opportunities for participants to engage with architecture not only through buildings and exhibitions but also through landscapes, natural environments, materials, ecological systems, and local communities. Its multidisciplinary program encourages new ways of thinking about how cities and built environments can coexist more responsibly with nature.

With its focus on ecology, biodiversity, sustainable development, architecture, and alternative futures, Oslo Architecture Triennale 2026 offers a platform for critical discussion and experimentation around one of the most important questions facing the built environment today: What would architecture look like if nature truly came first?
