The 2025 Forge Prize, organized by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), invites architects, educators, and students to push the boundaries of design using steel as the primary structural material. This competition, co-administered by AISC’s new Architecture Center and AISC University Relations, encourages participants to create visionary design concepts that showcase innovations in steel, with $25,000 in total prizes.

About the Competition

The Forge Prize is AISC Architecture Center’s flagship design competition, aimed at inspiring creativity and innovation in the use of steel. Participants are challenged to envision future structures and explore how steel can shape living, working, and recreational spaces. The competition asks fundamental questions about the future of building materials and the role of steel in tomorrow’s architecture.

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: November 22, 2024, 11:59 PM CST
  • Live Presentation: March 6, 2025, via YouTube stream
  • Architecture in Steel Conference: April 2-4, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky

Prizes

  • Three Finalists: Each will receive $5,000, free registration, and travel support to attend the Architecture in Steel conference.
  • Grand Prize Winner: An additional $10,000 and a showcase at the 2025 Architecture in Steel Conference.

Eligibility

The competition is open to:

  • Emerging practicing architects licensed for less than 10 years or on the path to licensure.
  • Tenured or tenure-track educators who have taught for less than 10 years in a U.S. university-level architecture program.
  • Adjunct architecture educators who have taught for less than 10 years and are licensed for less than 10 years or on the path to licensure.
  • Graduate-level architecture students enrolled in a U.S.-based university architecture program.

Highlights

Participants will work closely with a steel fabricator to refine their designs before presenting them to judges and a global audience. The competition has a history of producing groundbreaking concepts, including pedestrian bridges, revitalized public housing, and innovative space-frame systems, demonstrating the versatility and potential of steel in modern architecture.
