Architecture Competition: JANUS et CIE 2024 Global Student Design Competition
JANUS et Cie is pleased to announce the dates of its second Global Student Design Competition, which honors emerging talent in the field of design. The objective of the 2024 competition is to develop adaptable products focused on placemaking, with special emphasis on the dynamic relationship between pieces—how they cluster, group, and fit together to establish a place for dialogue and community. The international design collective RIOS collaborated with the competition organizers to develop the brief and foundational platform.
Junior and senior design students, as well as those in their last two years of a design school, located in the US and other countries, are eligible to compete.
The major prize will be given away at NeoCon in Chicago in June 2024, with cash rewards going to the students and a matching sum going to the design departments at their respective institutions. Five finalists will be revealed in the spring of that year. Adam Stover, Senior Principal at Populous, Carolina Zhang, and Sebastian Salvadó, Creative Director and Partner at RIOS, make up the founding jury for the competition.
JANUS et Cie names Christopher Locke the competition champion for the second year. Through projects guided by the ideas of social and spatial justice and design equality, Locke hopes to diversify the way architecture is taught and practiced in his capacity as co-founder of Designing in Color. In his work, he mostly employs filmmaking as a storytelling and communication tool.
