Inspired by Victorian greenhouses, this 2,000-square-meter food market celebrates the rich heritage of Shanghai’s longtang architecture while embracing contemporary design principles.
Contextual Integration: Honoring Tradition
Nestled within the Hong Shou Fang community, Foodie Social seamlessly blends into its surroundings, paying homage to the classic laneway architecture that defines the neighborhood. The entrance, framed by stacked recycled red bricks and a corten steel canopy, serves as a welcoming invitation to visitors, setting the tone for the culinary journey that awaits inside.
Architectural Aesthetics: A Modern Interpretation
Drawing inspiration from Victorian greenhouses, the interior of Foodie Social resembles a contemporary greenhouse, with shops and cafes arranged around a central, double-height atrium. The glass pitched roof, adorned with gently curved metal trusses, floods the space with natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of an outdoor market.
Functional Design: Flexibility and Adaptability
