Architecture holds the unique ability to influence our emotions in subtle and profound ways. While it may not be common to reflect on how a building makes you feel, every space—be it an office, gallery, or museum—creates an emotional response. Architecture can energize, intrigue, and calm, becoming more than just structures but environments that impact our mental state.
The Challenge
Museum of Emotions / Edition 6 is a competition that challenges participants to use architecture to evoke a wide range of emotions. As part of an annual series of architecture competitions, this task asks designers to create a museum that includes two distinct halls: one that induces negative emotions, and another that elicits positive emotions.
Emotions Through Architecture
Participants have complete freedom in choosing which specific emotions to explore, from fear and anxiety to joy and love. The design must use architecture as the primary tool to provoke emotional responses through space scaling, pathways, materials, lighting, and color choices.
Freedom of Site and Size
This competition encourages creativity and innovation, allowing participants to select any site, whether real or imaginary, and determine the size of the museum themselves. As an ideas competition, it provides an open canvas for bold and unique concepts.
Silent Competition Format
In a unique twist, the Museum of Emotions / Edition 6 is part of Buildner’s silent competitions, meaning participants must communicate their ideas entirely through visuals, with no text allowed to explain the design.
