A Harmonious Fusion of Architecture and Nature:-
NOT A HOTEL’s latest luxury retreat, Toji Minakami, sits atop a secluded mountain in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Designed by Suppose Design Office, this boutique complex features five minimalist villas and a restaurant, each framing the region’s dramatic seasonal shifts—snowy winters, cherry blossoms in spring, lush summers, and golden autumn foliage.
The design embraces stillness, with copper-clad facades that age gracefully over time, mirroring the natural rhythms of the surrounding landscape.
Copper Facades & Timeless Design:-
The villas’ oxidizing copper exteriors evolve with the environment, developing a rich patina over years. Angular, understated roofs taper into the forest, avoiding unnecessary ornamentation.
NOT A HOTEL Toji integrates Japan’s:-
onsen culture with modern luxury:
- Black plaster-walled baths face the mountains, offering meditative solitude.
- Flexible design: Sliding doors let guests open the bath to nature or enclose it for privacy.
- Sauna-to-pool flow: The layout encourages a seamless bathing ritual, enhanced by forest views.
