One Life: Maya Lin حياة واحدة: مايا لين

The first biographical exhibition of the architect, sculptor, and environmentalist is titled “One Life: Maya Lin.” With a specific focus on how people experience and relate to landscape. Lin has spent more than 40 years creating work on history and human rights since she rose to international fame in 1982 with her design of the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial. “A methodical organization of the land that is related to history, chronology, and language,” says Lin of her method. With a variety of pictures from her finished works, personal memorabilia, sketchbooks, architectural models, and photographs, the show will follow Lin from her early years to the present.

An aspect of Lin’s “What Is Missing?” project, which addresses the biodiversity issue by requesting that viewers utilize a multimedia platform to share memories of natural features that have disappeared over their lifetimes, will also be on display. The “One Life” exhibit of the Portrait Gallery. Which has just been moved to the museum’s second floor, and will host “One Life: Maya Lin”. It will be on display from September 30, 2022, through April 16, 2023. It is curated by Dorothy Moss, curator of painting and sculpture. Since the series’ inception in 2006, this is the museum’s first “One Life” exhibition to an Asian American.
