Architecture Competition: Seoul Architecture Award

The Seoul Metropolitan Government intends to present the “Seoul Architecture Award” to architects and citizens who have contributed to the development of Seoul’s architectural culture and building technology and the students showing creative Ideas about Seoul to encourage excellent buildings that have improved the quality of life of citizens by realizing the public value of architecture. We hope that many people who are interested in architectural culture will actively participate.

1. Awards: A total of 24 creations
– Completion sector: 14 designs (1 for first prize, 2 for second prize, 10 for third prize, and 1 work for the Green Architecture prize)
– International Student Pieces: 10 works (1 for first prize, 1 for second prize, 2 for third prize, and 6 honorable mentions)
※ The number of awards may be adjusted depending on the number of entries, the level of work, and the results of the evaluation (judging committee).

3. Competition target
– Completion sector
(1)General
• Buildings located in Seoul that have been approved for use within the last 3 years (January 19, 2019 ~ June 15, 2022). Remolded* buildings are limited to buildings for which 15 years have passed since the initial approval for use (approved for use before July 2007).

(2)Green Archite-cture
• A building that meets the above standards and has received green building certification and energy efficiency rating certification.
※ Submit documentation marked with a certification body and grade.

(3) Master architect
• The screening committee will select a construction company or on-site representative for a building with an excellent assembly from among the works submitted for the construction award for the year.

– International Student Works Sector
• An architecture plan for the city of Seoul by college, university, graduate school students (including students on leave of absence) and student who will graduate in 2022 (draft)

4. Eligibility and methods of application
– Completion sector
(1) Eligibility
• Lead Architect or Lead Designer
※ In principle, one representative is allowed, but if there is mutual consent on the copyright, up to two people can apply
(2) method of application
• Directed method: Direct application for participation by a representative architect or designer
• Other suggested methods: Recommendation based on a buildings.
– Recommendation entities: architecture-related organizations, autonomous districts, individuals, etc.
– Recommendation period: Friday, May 6, 2022 ~ Friday, June 3, 2022
– Only works for which the designer has applied and been approved from among the recommended works will be judged.

– International Student Works Sector
(1) Eligibility
• One Tutor and One Student
– Tutor: Professor or lecturer at a college, university, or graduate school.
– Students: College, university, or graduate school students (including students on leave of absence) and students who will graduate in 2022
(2) method of application
• Directed method: Direct application for participation by tutor and student

5. Competition Schedule
– Competition period: Thusday May 12, 2022 ~ Friday June 17, 2022
– Application period: Thursday, June 16 and Friday June 17, 2022 10:00 ~ 17:00

6. Winner’s Privileges
– Awards Ceremony: Planned for Wednesday, September 14, 2022
– Artwork exhibition: Planned for Wednesday, September 14, 2022 ~ Sunday, September 25, 2022
