Architecture Competition: Seoul Design Award 2024

In 2010, Seoul was designated as a City of Design by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, a significant recognition that coincided with its year as World Design Capital. This dual honor marked a pivotal moment in Seoul’s journey towards sustainability, setting the stage for collaborative design efforts that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Seoul’s Commitment to Global Sustainability

With a vision to enhance global sustainability through shared learning and innovation, the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) took a proactive step in 2018 by inviting 20 cities worldwide to share their success stories and best practices. This initiative underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange in addressing the pressing environmental and social challenges of our time.

The Birth of the Seoul Design Award

Building on this collaborative spirit, the SMG established the ‘Seoul Design Award for Sustainable Daily Life’ in 2019. This prestigious award aims to recognize and celebrate designs that promote sustainable living, emphasizing harmony between people, society, and the environment. The Seoul Design Award is more than just a recognition; it is a platform that highlights the transformative power of design in creating sustainable and resilient communities.

A Global Platform for Transformative Design

Since its inception, the Seoul Design Award has attracted entries from 62 countries, establishing itself as a respected and influential platform in the international design community. Esteemed by global experts, the award celebrates socially transformative designs and honors designers committed to their social responsibilities. It serves as a testament to the impact that thoughtful, innovative design can have on everyday life, driving positive change and fostering sustainability.
