Severance Jelly

PSA is hosting a design competition to create an edible design in the form of an architectural jelly under the theme of “severance”, or the seemingly permanent social, cultural, and political divisions that typify our current era.

Jelly can be defined as A fruit-flavored dessert made by warming and then cooling a liquid containing gelatin or a similar setting agent in a mold or disk so that it sets into a semi-solid, somewhat elastic mass.

Using a single or multiple cuts with a kitchen knife or other tool, you will photograph the carving of your jelly to perform the severance of which your jelly is a representation.

Production

1. You will first need to decide on and create a subject that your jelly will represent.
2. You will design the jelly.
3. You will then need to create a negative/mold for the jelly, this could be vacuum formed or 3D printed (for example).
4 You will then cast your jelly to produce a fruit-flavored dessert in the shape of your selected subject.
5 Using a single or multiple cuts, you will carve your jelly to perform the severance of which your jelly is a representation.
6 You will give your Severance Jelly a title.
