The Fundació Mies van der Rohe is once again curating the Living Places—Simon Architecture Prize, an initiative by Simon, now in its fifth edition. The Prize is designed to identify architectural projects that enhance people’s quality of life, offering comfort in daily activities such as working, learning, sharing, and enjoying spaces.
Submission and Jury Process
For 2024, the Prize is open to projects from Europe, Mexico, and Brazil, with nominations accepted until September 16, 2024. Architects can submit their nominated projects by September 30, 2024. The international jury will review these submissions in November, with finalists and winners announced in December.
Award Categories
The competition features two categories: Collective Places, which focus on public and communal spaces, and Personal Places, which emphasize privacy and comfort. Each category will have five finalists, and one winner will be selected per category. Additionally, a special recognition will be given for the best audiovisual narrative, as videos play a crucial role in communicating the essence of the nominated works.
Jury and Awards
The jury for this edition includes professionals from various disciplines, including architecture, design, and filmmaking. Notable members are PhD Architect Andrés Jaque, filmmaker Amanda Sans, and industrial designer Salvi Plaja, among others.
The prize includes a trophy designed by Andreu Carulla and a monetary award of €10,000. The competition is free to enter, and the winners will be celebrated in a ceremony in February 2025.
