Stone House by Sketch Design Studio
Nestled near the Aravalli mountains in Rajasthan, India, the Stone House stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of rustic charm and modern design. Crafted by Sketch Design Studio, this rural residence exudes an aura of serenity, offering a tranquil retreat for its occupants. Let’s delve into the architectural marvel that is the Stone House.
Embracing Local Materials
Built from locally sourced stone blocks obtained from demolition sites, the Stone House celebrates the rich heritage of its surroundings. Externally, the stone walls are skillfully rendered in mud and lime plaster, creating a visually striking facade that seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape.
Rustic Yet Refined Interiors
Upon entering the Stone House, one is greeted by the raw beauty of exposed stone adorning feature walls and arches throughout the interior. The irregularity of the stone serves as a testament to the passage of time, adding character and depth to the living spaces. Complementing the stone walls, clay paint coats many of the interior surfaces, enhancing the earthy aesthetic while promoting eco-friendliness.
Sustainable Design Philosophy
Founder Shipra Singhania’s commitment to sustainability shines through in every aspect of the Stone House’s design. From the repurposed stone to the eco-friendly finishes, every element is thoughtfully curated to minimize environmental impact. The incorporation of traditional Indian building techniques pays homage to the country’s architectural heritage while infusing the space with a timeless appeal.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living
One of the defining features of the Stone House is its seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. A glazed door opens up the living areas to a screened patio, inviting the outdoors in and fostering a deep connection with nature. The spiral staircase leading to the roof terrace further enhances the sense of openness. Therefore, providing panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
A Sanctuary of Tranquility
Designed as a sanctuary for its inhabitants, the Stone House offers a respite from the chaos of urban living. With its modest yet thoughtfully crafted interior layout, the residence exudes a sense of calm and tranquility. White marble flooring sourced from Makrana adds a touch of elegance to the bedrooms. As a result, creating tranquil havens for rest and relaxation.
Conclusion
In the Stone House, Sketch Design Studio has created more than just a residence; they have crafted a sanctuary where rustic simplicity meets contemporary elegance. With its emphasis on local materials, sustainable design practices, and seamless integration with the natural environment, the Stone House stands as a beacon of architectural excellence in rural India.
