Home » Competitions » The Attendance: A School Design Challenge

The Attendance School Design Challenge invites architects, designers, and innovators to envision a state-of-the-art educational institution. The challenge emphasizes creating a school that is innovative, sustainable, and architecturally distinctive. The project aims to set a new benchmark for school design while accommodating the educational demands of a rapidly growing urban area.

Location Context

The proposed site is situated on the outskirts of Morbi, a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Known as the ceramic capital of India, Morbi hosts over 900 ceramic manufacturing plants, collectively generating products valued at ₹20,000 crore annually. This industrial prosperity has catalyzed Morbi’s rapid development, with high-end residential projects and urban expansions shaping the city’s landscape.

As the population grows, the demand for educational institutions rises correspondingly. The new school is intended to serve as a cornerstone of this evolving urban fabric, meeting the educational needs of Morbi’s emerging communities.

Design Brief

Participants are tasked with creating a school that reflects excellence in both form and function. The challenge emphasizes:

  • Innovation: Integration of cutting-edge technologies and modern teaching methodologies.
  • Sustainability: Incorporating eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Architectural Uniqueness: A design that serves as a landmark, blending functionality with aesthetics.

The school should provide a nurturing environment that supports academic excellence, creativity, and holistic development, offering facilities that rival the best in the region.

Objective

The project aims to deliver an educational hub that fosters innovation while addressing the needs of students and the community. It must incorporate spaces for learning, recreation, and collaboration, tailored to the cultural and environmental context of Morbi. Through this challenge, participants are encouraged to think beyond conventional designs and craft a vision for the future of education.

Significance

As Morbi continues to evolve as a hub of industrial and residential growth, institutions like this school will play a pivotal role in shaping the city’s future. This competition not only seeks architectural ingenuity but also aligns with the city’s trajectory toward modernity and sustainability.

Challenge Scope

Participants must consider the following in their designs:

  • Optimal use of space within the given site.
  • Integration of local materials and construction techniques to reflect the region’s identity.
  • State-of-the-art facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, sports areas, and community spaces.
  • Environmentally conscious solutions to reduce the carbon footprint.

The resulting design should act as a model for future educational projects in growing cities like Morbi.
