The Cool House in Bharuch was designed with the climate in mind,
Designed by Samira Rathod Design Atelier, The Cool House in Bharuch,
Gujarat is a contemporary architectural masterpiece.
To successfully address the challenges posed by the local climate, in particular,
the design aims to mitigate the intense summer heat that characterizes the arid region.
Design features
A corridor runs through the center of the building, connecting the rooms into two courtyards,
and windows are strategically placed to bring in cool breezes and diffuse harsh light.
The south façade is mostly solid, while the winds through the southwest courtyard are directed to the northeast.
Ventilating the entire space, the southwest courtyard features a shallow body of water
that cools incoming breezes and a perforated screen that directs it into the house.
While the windows of the first floor overlook the other courtyard covered with trees.
In addition to its strategic design, the Cool House also has thick outer walls
and a cool interior of lime powder to help regulate the temperature inside the building.
The black paint and custom-sized siporex bricks add to its finesse.
All in all, Cool House demonstrates the importance of climate consideration
and material importance in contemporary architecture, particularly in areas with extreme weather conditions.
The success of the house, as evidenced by the refreshing breeze it provides during the hottest months of the year, demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach.
